A Modest Evening Opening

At 2000 UTC, the QDFA antenna caught some NHK1 stations during their local ID slot, in addition to most of the common commercial Japan stations, and many Koreans. The listing below are those with a definite ID (updated 14 SEP):

Frequency
Station
549
NHK1 JOAP Naha
594
NHK1 JOAK Tokyo
612
NHK1 JOLK Fukuoka
666
NHK1 JOBK Osaka
684
NHK1 JOAG Nagasaki
729
NHK1 JOCK Nagoya
738
JORR RBC, Naha
1071
NHK1 JOFK Hiroshima
1224
NHK1 JOJK Kanazawa
1233
JOUR Nagasaki Hoso call letter id!
1368
NHK1 JOLG Tottori
1467
HLKN KBS Mogpo

And numerous of the more common stations from Korea and Japan not listed here.

At 1800, several low-band Australians were heard according to OJ Sagdahl, but I wasn't listening at the time. Anyone eager to hear lots of Chinese, Japanese and Korean stations on MW can download the 1600 kHz Perseus file from this site. It is 415 MB in zipped mode. It will be available for a limited time only.

Interesting Perseus file! The NHK1 on 540 seems to say "JOFE" but that can not be right. Who is the VO Russia on 1215? I heard an unlisted CNR on 1512. And who are the Chinese stations on 702, 819, 1071 and 1530? And who gave call letters on 1233 at 1959:51?

Chuck, I don't hear any NHK ID on 540. 1233 is Nagasaki Hoso, JOUR (also gave call letters a few seconds earlier). Have no idea about the Chinese stations.

Unbelievable signals from Asia! Again, interesting to compare with my own simultaneous file here 700 km more to the south. Fortunately part of the stations can be found also here this time :-) If there is interest, I could upload my file, too?
1215 kHz VOR is from Kaliningrad, better in my file :-)
Isn't 1512 kHz CNR1 and not CNR2?
1530 kHz: maybe Jilin PBS? Very weak also in my file.
1071 kHz: Tianjin is the usual suspect.
819: this is interesting, nothing fits really, sounds like Zhintao.
702: too difficult.

Guys:
540 was a type & should be 549. I think she says JOAP but with enough accent to make it be JPFE to me the first time.
1512 is CNR1 and I mentioned it as I see no CNR listed in the PAL.
I agree on 1233 - I listened again and this time my English was better.
819: a mystery! To me, it is Zhindao or Zhintao but that is not close to any of the few Chinese stations. Help needed.
702: just beyond my reach.

I checked the recording more thoroughly yesterday evening, and updated the log. Mauno: My Dropbox account is size restricted so you must upload somewhere else, but if you do please share the link.

864: HLKR KBS Gangneung strong as usual, but isn't there a "JO.." in there as well? JOXR would fit with conditions (Hokkaido stations mostly down due to sunrise)

549: I think he says clearly JOAP, I hear it better when using LSB.
864: yes, definitely Japanese also there. Could it be JOSF 1332 relay?
1512: See comments for Nei Menggu on Asiawaves: "Relays CNR-1 1958-2030, 2230-2300, 1200-1230, 1500-1730."

Bjarne: I have uploaded my simultaneous file to:

Yes, 549 is Naha. I expected Okinawa on 558 and 1395 to be audible as well, but they seemed to be buried in noise. I'll check 864 again - a bit puzzled that commercial Japanese stations appear to be using call signs more often now than before.

I'll check your file, Mauno.

864: I should have compared 864 with 1332 before commenting: it wasn't that. I think the stronger female voice is the Korean ID and the Japanese female voice gets buried under it.

819: Hiroo Nakagawa suggests Qingdao PBS (listed on 1377 kHz) and that sounds probable.

Yes, it is Qingdao PBS Life Channel, mentioned also on
